Here are the most recent updates from Will Stone:

The Lands Committee of the Parks Board moved to adopt a resolution in support of our Beacon Preservation Plan.  This will go to a vote of the Parks Board at the meeting this coming Thursday(July 14th) at 1:30 at City Hall in the council chambers.  It’s now certain we’ll be on the agenda so anyone who can come again in support of the vision for preserving Beacon would be much appreciated.  I understand 1:30 on a weekday is tougher, and as we’re fairly certain this will go through it’s less critical to attend this meeting than the Conservation Futures meeting.  That said it would be great to have a group of bikers show support to the Parks Board so they have an idea of how many of us care for this park.

Just wanted to take a chance to thank everyone who came out to support Beacon for the public input meeting on conservation futures nominations!  I’d guess we had 80+ people there, easily 2/3 of the room.  Seeing your hands raised in support of ranking Beacon at the top this round of conservation futures was certainly powerful for me, I’m guessing it had a similar impact on the land evaluation committee.  Doug Chase (director of county parks) indicated that our gesture there made it as though 100 of us spoke in support of Beacon.

So, thanks for coming out and showing your support.  It’s fantastic to be able to show how many bikers there are that love our local riding areas.  It’s tough for me to explain to some of the municipal parks folks how many of us there are, and how much we care.  An army of raised hands certainly brings the point home.
