To bring;

1) one or more organization-trained work crew leaders – safety comes first!

2) trail building tools, such as pulaski, ho-dad, pick, shovel, hoe, rake, McLeod, rock bar.

3) work gloves; eye protection; water bottle; hard hat; work boots or other stable/protective foot wear; sun protection such as wide-brim hat, cotton long sleeve shirt, and sun screen.

4) layered clothing for possible temperature swings, and depending on the forecast maybe light rain gear or water repellent jacket.

5) high-clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle since we may well need help to shuttle folks on BLM secondary 2-track roads some distance to trail segments needing work.

Timeline Breakdown

8:00 – 8:45 am: Registration at Folsom Farm. Any youth under age 18 will need parental/guardian consent signature onsite to be able to participate in work. BLM will supply doughnuts and/or muffins, orange juice and bottled waters. Please bring your own coffee.

8:45 – 9:00 am: Still at Folsom Farm we will have a safety briefing, and possibly break into two work groups.

9:00 am: Drive to start areas; TBD with walk-in and/or drive from:
1) Fishtrap Road Parking Lot Trailhead, and/or
2) Farmer’s Landing Parking Lot Trailhead.

9:30 – 12:30: Trail work

1:00 – 2:00 pm: Gather back at Folsom Farm for a light lunch of a wrap or sandwich and chips and soda (or water). Also, until they run out, work participants will at this time receive a free NPLD t-shirt and federal public lands pass (for national parks, fee areas, etc.).

I am also happy to share that since our NPLD event a year ago, Washington Trails Association has held at least five trail work days, and BLM has employed youth crews (Washington Conservation Corps and Northwest Youth Corps) with crew size ranging from 5 to 9 individuals, for a total of 5 work weeks (by the end of next week) of hand tools trail construction, so much good progress has continued up until the present time.

Please contact me anytime with questions or to coordinate, and of course to RSVP.

I look forward to hearing from you, and seeing you soon!
